Expectations for Writing Constructed Responses (agreed to 02/09/11)

When writing a constructed response that can stand alone, the writer:
  • includes evidence that supports the response
  • makes sure all parts of the question have been fully answered
  • uses specific vocabulary and examples
  • demonstrates understanding of the content in the response

UIP Goals for Writing (agreed to on March 2, 2011):
  1. Writing Instruction: My summary of the mini-lesson includes students' plans for next steps.
  2. Conferencing and Writing Practice: I meet with small groups for guided writing for specific instructional needs.
  3. My students: can state their purpose, format, and audience for their writing.

Systemic Practices

Reading Instruction

  1. CORE reading instruction is Shared reading with grade level text using a variety of genres aligned to CAP
  2. Small group instruction based on student needs (Phonics, comprehension, fluency, oral language, etc.)
  3. Focus on Oral Language with a link to writing

Spelling Instruction using Sitton Spelling resource

  1. Tuesday - Dictation sentences
  2. Wednesday - Preview new core words
  3. Use skills and assessment readiness activities based on class or student needs aligned to CAP.
